And there are some 800,000 gang members in this country: That’s more than the combined number of troops in our Army and Marine Corps. These gangs have become one of the principle ways to import and distribute drugs in the United States. Congressman David Reichert joins Lou to tell us why those gangs are growing larger and stronger, and why he’s introduced legislation to eliminate the top three international drug gangs.

U.S. Spending At Least $18.6 Million Per Day to Incarcerate Illegal Aliens; More Than 195,000 Illegal Aliens Deported in Fiscal 2010 Had Committed Crimes Here

Friday, October 08, 2010
By Edwin Mora

More than 11,000 gang members and their associates have been arrested over a three-year period thanks to a crackdown in immigration enforcement by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

(CNSNews.com) – U.S. taxpayers are spending at least $18.6 million per day to house an estimated 300,000 to 450,000 illegal immigrants who are incarcerated and eligible for deportation from the United States, according to data from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Department of Justice (DOJ).
The cost per day for these prisoners is based on Justice Department incarceration cost estimates from 2001 and on the lower-end figure of 300,000 incarcerated deportable aliens, which means the actual expense today could be substantially higher than $18.6 million per day.
The prisones involved here are foreign national who have come into the United States, committed a crime, been captured, and imprisoned.
Half of the undocumented aliens who were removed from the United States in fiscal 2010 (which ended on Sept. 30) had been convicted of a crime in the United States.
On Wednesday, the office of the DHS Inspector General (IG) released its annual performance plan report for fiscal year 2011, which states that there are “approximately 300,000 to 450,000 criminal aliens incarcerated in federal, state, county, and local correctional facilities [who] are eligible for removal from the United States.”
In its March 2010 report, "Immigration Enforcement Actions: 2009," the DHS defines removal as "the compulsory and confirmed movement of an inadmissible or deportable alien out of the United States based on an order of removal. An alien who is removed has administrative or criminal consequences placed on subsequent reentry owing to the fact of the removal."
Kara McCarthy, a spokeswoman at the DOJ, told CNSNews.com that the latest data available show that “average annual operating costs per state inmate for Fiscal Year 2001 was $22,650; in the Federal Bureau of Prisons it was $22,632.”
These annual operation costs exclude “capital expenditures, juvenile corrections, probation, parole, and most central office functions of corrections spending,” McCarthy told CNSNews.com
The cost of $22,650 per year to house just one inmate at the state level equals about $62 a day ($22,650 divided by 365 days). In the Federal Bureau of Prisons, it also averages out to $62 per day ($22,632 divided by 365 days).
Given this daily average expense (based on fiscal year 2001 costs), it can be estimated that the cost of housing 300,000 incarcerated illegal aliens in U.S. prisons would equal $18.6 million per day; the cost for housing 450,000 incarcerated illegal aliens would equal $27.9 million per day. If inflation in prison costs since 2001 were factored in, the expense would be even greater.
When CNSNews.com asked why incarcerated aliens who are eligible for removal have not been deported, a DHS spokesperson said, “It is because they are still serving their criminal sentence. ICE does not receive criminal aliens from state criminal justice systems until after they have completed their sentences.” (ICE is the acronym for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.)
On the same day the IG’s office released its performance plan report, DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano and ICE Director John Morton announced that half of the undocumented aliens who were removed from the United States in fiscal year 2010, which ended on Sept. 30, were convicted criminals.
“In fiscal year 2010, ICE set a record for overall removals of illegal aliens, with more than 392,000 removals nationwide,” says an Oct. 6 press release from the DHS. “Half of those removed--more than 195,000--were convicted criminals.”
“The fiscal year 2010 statistics represent increases of more than 23,000 removals overall and 81,000 criminal removals compared to fiscal year 2008--a more than 70 percent increase in removal of criminal aliens from the previous administration,” added the release.

It is uncertain whether the IG office’s estimate of 300,000 to 450,000 incarcerated criminal aliens who are eligible for removal takes into account the 195,000 criminal aliens removed in fiscal 2010. The IG office did not respond to CNSNews.com for a clarification on this point before this story was posted.
Nevertheless, the DHS did not deport all of the criminal illegal aliens who are eligible for removal and are currently sitting in U.S. correctional facilities.
The DOJ spokeswoman told CNSNews.com that, according to its latest figures, “In 2008 there were 785,556 inmates in the nation's [local and county] jails and 1,518,559 inmates in state and federal prisons.” That equals 2,304,115 inmates in total in the United States.
Given those numbers, 300,000 incarcerated criminal aliens would equal 13 percent of the entire inmate population of the United States, while 450,000 incarcerated criminal aliens would equal 19.5 percent of the entire inmate population.
According to the IG report from DHS, “The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 requires ICE to initiate deportation proceedings for incarcerated criminal aliens as expeditiously as possible after the date of conviction. Criminal aliens who are eligible for deportation include illegal aliens in the United States who are convicted of any crime and lawful permanent residents who are convicted of a removable offense as defined in the Immigration and Nationality Act.”

“According to the Washington Times, "the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement deported 392,862 aliens in fiscal year 2010, slightly less than a 1 percent increase over 2009 but short of the agency's goal to remove 400,000 this year."

The Sound of One Hand Clapping

By Cal Thomas

10/12/2010

I was preparing to applaud the Obama administration and specifically Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano for announcing the deportation of a record number of criminal aliens last year. According to the Washington Times, "the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement deported 392,862 aliens in fiscal year 2010, slightly less than a 1 percent increase over 2009 but short of the agency's goal to remove 400,000 this year."
What curbed my enthusiasm was news that removal of other illegal immigrants -- those not convicted of crimes, though it could be justifiably argued that their status as illegal immigrants is, by definition, the breaking of American law -- fell to the lowest number since 2007.
Dan Stein, president of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), said that while it is nice that Secretary Napolitano believes removing people in the country illegally is an important function for the Department of Homeland Security, "policy directives from the highest levels of DHS clearly demonstrate that the administration is refusing to enforce laws against noncriminal aliens."
That bad cop/good cop approach is designed to pacify those on the political right while the administration and some Democrats in Congress simultaneously lay the groundwork for legalizing those who broke our laws to get here and remain in the country illegally.
In a desperate last-minute pre-election move to win more votes for Democratic candidates, New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez and Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy introduced the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2010 prior to adjournment. This bill, if passed, would effectively grant amnesty to illegal immigrants currently in the country. No one expects the bill to pass when Congress returns for a lame duck session, especially if Republicans win a House majority and make substantial inroads to the Democrats' Senate majority, or take back the Senate.
According to FAIR's analysis, DHS data show the Obama administration has "dramatically curtailed all aspects of immigration enforcement against illegal aliens who have not committed violent crimes in this country." FAIR says when it comes to enforcement of the law at worksites, "administrative arrests have fallen by 77 percent, criminal arrests are down 60 percent, indictments are down 64 percent, and convictions have fallen by 68 percent since 2008."
We have seen this political game played out over many years and with administrations of both parties. Big business, which mostly contributes to Republican political campaigns, wants cheap labor and so favors illegal immigrants. Democrats want the illegal immigrants because they see them as potential Democratic voters.
Rep. Lamar Smith, Texas Republican, says, "Millions of Americans are struggling to find work, while an estimated 7 million illegal immigrants are working in the U.S. Worksite enforcement could help make those much-needed jobs available for U.S. citizens and legal immigrant workers."
That is a debatable point whether the unemployed would be willing to do the grunt work illegal immigrants often do, especially when Americans can now collect unemployment checks for more than a year. What should not be debatable is that lax enforcement of our immigration laws leads to more disrespect for those laws and serves as an incentive for more people to enter the country illegally.
This is what occurred following the "comprehensive" immigration reform under Ronald Reagan and it would happen again unless our borders are fully secured and something is done about those illegal immigrants already here. Granted, they won't all be deported, but they should not be allowed to escape punishment for breaking the law. Otherwise, the law is meaningless.
So let's hear it for Homeland Security's successful deportations of criminal aliens. But given that the U.S. is only enforcing a portion of its immigration laws, all I can offer is the sound of one hand clapping.

“Walsh stated. Walsh said his analysis indicating there are 38 million illegal aliens in the U.S. was calculated using the conservative estimate of three illegal immigrants entering the U.S. for each one apprehended.”

Illegal alien population may be as high as 38 million

Study: Illegal alien population may be as high as 38 million A new report finds the Homeland Security Department "grossly underestimates" the number of illegal aliens living in the U.S. Homeland Security's Office of Immigration Studies released a report August 31 that estimates the number of illegal aliens residing in the U.S. is between 8 and 12 million. But the group Californians for Population Stabilization, or CAPS, has unveiled a report estimating the illegal population is actually between 20 and 38 million. Four experts, all of whom contributed to the study prepared by CAPS, discussed their findings at a news conference at the National Press Club in Washington Wednesday. James Walsh, a former associate general counsel of the Immigration and Naturalization Service, said he is "appalled" that the Bush administration, lawyers on the Senate Judiciary Committee, and every Democratic presidential candidate, with the exception of Joe Biden, have no problem with sanctuary cities for illegal aliens. "Ladies and gentlemen, the sanctuary cities and the people that support them are violating the laws of the United States of America. They're violating 8 USC section 1324 and 1325, which is a felony -- [it's] a felony to aid, support, transport, shield, harbor illegal aliens," Walsh stated. Walsh said his analysis indicating there are 38 million illegal aliens in the U.S. was calculated using the conservative estimate of three illegal immigrants entering the U.S. for each one apprehended. According to Walsh, "In the United States, immigration is in a state of anarchy -- not chaos, but anarchy."

No cost-of-living raise for 59 million US elderly
By a reporter
12 October 2010
The US Social Security Administration will announce this week that nearly 59 million people receiving benefits will get no cost-of-living raise next January to compensate for inflation. This marks the second consecutive year that Social Security checks have been frozen at the level set in January 2009.
Cost-of-living adjustments are set based on a formula established by Congress in 1973. The inflation rate is measured by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) in the third quarter of each year, compared to the same period the year before. While the official BLS report is not issued until Friday, October 16, it has already been widely reported that the inflation figure will be below the level needed to trigger a raise in Social Security payments.
Because of the sharp run-up in gasoline prices in the summer of 2008, the cost-of-living adjustment calculated in October 2008 and paid in January 2009 was the largest in 27 years, 5.8 percent. But since then, gasoline prices have plunged from $4.00 a gallon to a national average of $2.70, holding down the inflation index.
Since the elderly drive less than the general population, they benefit less from the decline in gas prices. On the other hand, they spend much more than the average on health care services and prescription drugs, whose prices continue to rise steadily.
The economic stimulus bill passed in March 2009 provided a $250 payment to Social Security recipients, incorporated in the legislation because it was already anticipated that there would be no cost-of-living raise. The one-time payment was the equivalent of a 2 percent rise in the average Social Security check of $1,072 a month.
The Obama administration proposed a second one-time payment to offset a second year without a cost-of-living raise, but this was blocked in the Senate by an alliance of 40 out of 41 Republicans, 12 conservative Democrats, and right-wing Independent Democrat Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut.
Millions of elderly people have seen the value of their homes and retirement savings collapse, and now will be told, barely two weeks before the November 2 election, that their Social Security benefits will be frozen for a second consecutive year. Social Security is the primary source of income for 64 percent of recipients. For one third of recipients, Social Security constitutes 90 percent or more of their annual income.
The freeze is only a foretaste of what is to come, under the austerity policies backed by both the Democrats and Republicans. In December, one month after the election, a bipartisan commission on the federal budget deficit appointed by President Obama is to present a report on the “reform”—i.e., drastic cutting—of entitlement programs like Social Security Medicare and Medicaid.
Its recommendations are expected to include both restrictions on eligibility, such as raising the retirement age, and cuts in benefits, including a new formula for calculating cost-of-living increases that will be based on wages, not prices, and will therefore leave the elderly more vulnerable to inflation.
One of the top Democratic Party budget experts on the deficit commission, former Clinton budget director and Federal Reserve governor Alice Rivlin, is openly advocating a combination of actual benefit cuts and raising the age of eligibility from 66 to 70.
Efforts by liberal Democrats in Congress to forestall a recommendation for cuts in Social Security have attracted notably little support. Only 100 House Democrats, out of 255, co-signed a letter to Obama rejecting any benefit cuts or eligibility restrictions in the program. A resolution along similar lines by independent Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders attracted only 12 of the 59 Senate Democrats.
In a joint appearance on Fox News Sunday, House Republican whip Eric Cantor and House Democratic deputy whip Debbie Wasserman Schultz refused to rule out raising the retirement age for Social Security as part of a bipartisan deal after the election. “We intend to deal with the real question of long-term fiscal sustainability of those programs and hence our economy,” said Cantor.

AN AMERICAN SEES & SPEAKS:
We can send money to third world countries that hate us, we can reward foreign nationals who break into our country illegally by granting their children citizenship while paying the costs of prenatal care and births then continue to pay with our social services. We can give our lawmakers and government workers cost of living increases and even allow those who paid nothing to suck off our Social Security. Yet, our seniors go without after paying for this country their entire lives. If this is progress from the progressives, then give me regression.

In California, League of United Latin American Citizens has adopted a resolution to declare "California Del Norte" a sanctuary zone for immigrants. The declaration urges the Mexican government to invoke its rights under the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo "to seek third nation neutral arbitration of ....disputes concerning immigration laws and their enforcement." We’ll have the story.
Mexican President Felipe Calderon is in New York today on the first leg his five day tour across America to meddle in immigration issues in the United States. This is his first visit to the U.S. since he became President in 2006, but he will not meet with President Bush or any of the presidential candidates, who he has accused of spewing anti immigrant rhetoric. These examples of illegal immigrant crime depict a growing menace to our functioning society. While a sleepy American public watches idly and a Congress refuses to enforce our borders while mayors adopt the ‘sanctuary policy’, we citizens receive an average of 2,200 illegals every 24 hours, seven days a week, 365 days per year. Since the Amnesty policy was announced, the invasion intensifies with greater numbers.

Immigration's Third World Momentum Crime Wave
Article by Frosty Wooldridge
January 29, 2004
Published in MichNews.com.
Last summer, in Boulder, Colorado, eight illegal aliens raped eight American woman. The aliens fled back to Mexico. One was caught. In a nearby city of Longmont, a used car dealer was driven out of business because he suffered so much theft from his lot that he bankrupted. An illegal alien killed a California cop, John Marsh, last year. Robberies and break-ins have become the norm in California. They’ve become the pattern in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and dozens of other states. But the sobering realities concerning these crimes point to one fact--they are illegal aliens. They are importing themselves into this country with a vengeance. They are deadly, pernicious and organized. They represent the worst of what is common in the Third World.
In her recent scathing report, ‘THE ILLEGAL ALIEN CRIME WAVE’ by brilliant investigative reporter, Heather MacDonald, our country is being assaulted by a crime wave that grows steadily and viciously. A full 95% of all outstanding warrants for homicide, which totaled 1,500 last year in Los Angeles, pointed to illegal aliens. Soberingly, two thirds of all fugitive felony warrants, totaling a horrifying 17,000, were for illegal aliens. To make matters worse, in 1995 a report showed that 60% of the 20,000-strong 18th Street gang in southern California was composed of illegal aliens. That gang collaborates with the Mexican Mafia on drug distribution schemes, extortion and drive-by assassinations. They commit assault and robberies every day of the week. A night of crime to them is like a day of work for American citizens.
How did it come about and why is it spreading? In 1979, Los Angeles Police Department Chief Daryl Gates enacted Special Order 40. Astoundingly, as if insanity took the front row seat in their minds, leaders of dozens of cities from San Francisco to Miami and New York City—adopted this special order. This law prohibits police officers from arresting illegal aliens. In reality, it’s a carte blanche invitation for crime to grow in our country, putting citizens at risk for their lives.
"If I see a deportee from the Mara Salvatrucha prison in El Salvador crossing the street in LA, I can’t touch him," said a Los Angeles police officer. "I can’t arrest him for an immigration felony."
Boulder, Colorado practices the same ‘sanctuary’ policy for illegal aliens. The mayor of the city openly encourages illegal aliens by making sure the police chief does not arrest illegals. Some of Boulder’s immigration lawyers were so bold as to offer publicly announced classes for illegal aliens on how to avoid arrest, detention and deportation by immigration agents. The result in that town shows a tripling of the illegal alien population as well as jobs taken away from citizens and the eight violent rapes.
Not far away in Denver last week, an illegal alien, Javier Cruz-Caballero, purposely ran down police officer, Robert Bryant, while the officer operated a radar gun in a school walk zone. Witnesses saw the Mexican national rev up his engine while taking dead-aim at the officer. Bryant flew 30 feet through the air while suffering a broken leg and head lacerations. He could have easily been killed.
At a greater level, New York’s Mayor Bloomberg supports illegal alien crime by maintaining a ‘sanctuary policy’ in that city. Last year, four illegals raped and killed a New York jogger. That crime was one of thousands of crimes committed by illegal aliens who are protected from the law. But more horrific in impact of this loss of the rule-of-law, former Mayor Guiliana practiced Special Order 40. Several illegal aliens protected by the Order participated in 9/11. The death toll reached 2,800, but the impact on our nation reverberates today. Yet, Special Order 40 continues full force in protecting the estimated 10 million illegal aliens in our country.
However, thousands of them are killing, raping, robbing and driving illegally in our country. Over 400,000 deportees continue walking around free in our country. The ones that commit crimes and are caught make up a full 29% of our prison populations. They cost American taxpayers nearly $1 billion annually to feed, house and care for them in our prisons. And, yet, Special Order 40, continues as if it was a fig leaf for welcoming hardened alien criminals.
Where does that leave you? If you’re in California, you’re planning on moving to Idaho or Montana because it’s already too late. With over 3.5 million illegals, the crime wave is beyond stopping. If you’re in Georgia, you’re probably stewing under your breath, but you don’t have a clue that it’s going to get worse. In Chicago, they either take jobs or rob banks or set up drug, prostitution and theft rings. If you’re in Florida, it is no longer an American city. Houston is just as bad. It grows worse in every city in America.
It’s called ‘THIRD WORLD MOMENTUM’. The key is to understand that in the Third World--corruption, crime, child prostitution, bashing in peoples’ heads, torture and worse is the norm. Why? Because the rule-of-law no longer applies. Today, in America, concerning illegal immigration, our public officials who were sworn to uphold the Constitution have abstained from their oaths of office. We’re forced NOT to talk about it via being politically correct, yet we are the victims of our own silence.
Because the American public still hasn’t figured this crisis out or keeps thinking it will go away on its own—IT IS GOING TO GET WORSE—and you or your loved ones will become victims given enough time. With Special Order 40 in your city, another 9/11 can’t be far off!

Obama Administration Refuses to Sue Sanctuary Cities
Obama Administration Refuses to Sue Sanctuary Cities

Less than a week after suing Arizona to block its immigration law, SB 1070, critics are pressing the Obama administration to go after “sanctuary cities” that deliberately look the other way when it comes to illegal immigration. The Department of Justice last week responded that it will not sue these cities, which prohibit local law enforcement from inquiring about an individual’s legal status or alerting immigration authorities when they encounter illegal immigrants, because it believes passive refusal to follow the law is not as egregious as Arizona’s passage of a law that “actively interferes” with federal law. Justice Department spokeswoman for Attorney General Eric Holder inexplicably argued, “There is a big difference between a state or locality saying they are not going to use their resources to enforce a federal law, as so-called sanctuary cities have done, and a state passing its own immigration policy that actively interferes with federal law.” (The Washington Times, July 14, 2010).

Representative Lamar Smith (R-TX), who authored the 1996 federal law which requires states and localities to cooperate with federal authorities on immigration enforcement, criticized the Justice Department’s politically convenient stance on sanctuary cities. "For the Justice Department to suggest that they won't take action against those who passively violate the law …. is absurd," said Rep. Smith. "Will they ignore individuals who fail to pay taxes? Will they ignore banking laws that require disclosure of transactions over $10,000? Of course not." (The Washington Times, July 14, 2010).

Arizona Governor Jan Brewer has also noted the irony of the Obama administration’s refusal to sue localities to strike down their sanctuary policies, which she said could also be considered a “patchwork” of immigration laws across the country. (Brewer Statement, July 6, 2010). Senator David Vitter (R-LA) similarly noted, “This administration’s idea of immigration enforcement is to go after the states and local officials actually trying to enforce the laws on the books. They are demonizing those that look to protect our border and end illegal immigration while giving a wink and nod of approval to sanctuary cities that don't enforce our laws.” (Vitter Press Release, July 15, 2010).

8 New American Gateways For Immigrants

By Neema P. Roshania, Kiplinger.com
Jun 29th, 2010
The economic recovery may be slow and uncertain. Immigration remains a hot button political issue. But there's one positive trend that will keep benefiting smaller cities in the years ahead: Their growing appeal to immigrant poppulations.

Though New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago and other large U.S. cities remain hubs for immigrants, newcomers from abroad are increasingly settling in smaller communities across the U.S., lured by a lower cost of living, more job opportunities, and a support structure of fellow immigrants. In return, these communities get a rejuvenated work force and a consumer base.
Here are eight rapidly emerging gateway communities for immigrants. All are likely to remain popular with foreign newcomers, despite stepped-up enforcement of federal immigration laws. Some may surprise you.
Benton/Washington Counties, Ark.

Home to large employers such as Wal-Mart in Bentonville and Tyson Foods in nearby Springdale, these northwest Arkansas counties have seen enormous growth in their immigrant populations over the past decade.
Foreign born residents now make up more than 20% of Springdale's population. The area's chicken farms, construction industry, corporate headquarters, and low cost of housing remain a strong magnet.
With Hispanics accounting for most of the increase, the region is seeing more ethnic bakeries, restaurants, media outlets, and other businesses. The once nearly homogeneous local school districts have added English as a second language to their curricula in addition to special programs to help involve parents in their children's education.
Portland and Salem, Ore. (Marion/Multnomah counties)

The growth of the area's technology industry draws highly skilled immigrant workers to northwest Oregon, where they're joining earlier arrivals -- refugees from Southeast Asia, Africa, eastern Europe and Russia.
Fairfax County, Va.
In this large suburban county bordering Washington, D.C., immigrants make up almost 30% of the population. The recession hasn't been felt here as much as it has in other parts of the country and construction, and service jobs are still plentiful. Fairfax County is across the Potomac River from the nation's capital, which, along with other large cities, has long been a draw for immigrants.
There's also a strong immigrant presence among service workers, especially in health care, restaurants, and cleaning services. Nearly 40% of the region's immigrant population arrived within the past decade. Many own their own businesses. And they are encouraging more family members and friends from the old country to join them.
Shelbyville, Tenn. (Bedford County)
Though the foreign born population in Shelbyville hovers around the national average, the small city and its environs have become a mecca for refugees from Egypt, Myanmar (formerly known as Burma), and Somalia. There are jobs in Shelbyville's food processing plants and other factories.
Cape Coral, Fla. (Lee County)
Southwest Florida's Gulf Coast has strong agriculture and service sectors. In 2000, Cape Coral's foreign born population was 8.7%, relatively low compared with national average of 11.1%. In the past decade it has increased by about 250% -- putting it above the national average.
Boise, Id. (Ada County)
Attracted to the area by job opportunities in agriculture and an affordable cost of living, Boise's immigrant population has climbed by more than 50% over the past decade.
Gwinnett County, Ga.
The foreign born population in Gwinnett County has more than doubled since 2000, and now represents about 25% of the county's total population. Drawn to the area by an abundance of jobs in the service sector and the low cost of housing, the immigrants are mostly Hispanic. They are carving out a livelihood in a region where blacks have traditionally been the most visible minority. Gwinnett also has one of the highest rates of illegal immigration in the U.S. -- authorities estimate that half of all foreign born residents of the county are unauthorized.

North Carolina's 394% immigrant growth rate in the 1990s was the fastest among Southern states, and the trend has continued in the 21st century. The Raleigh-Durham area has been hub to much of this growth.
The draw? Affordable housing and jobs at Research Triangle Park -- one of the country's largest technology development centers -- as well as in the construction and service sectors. The recession and stricter enforcement of immigration laws in the Tar Heel State are slowing immigration growth -- at least for now. But many experts think migration could pick up again as the economy recovers.

THIRD WORLD CRIME TIDAL WAVE

Mexico's UNARMED LETHAL INVASION

Book review - Immigration's Unarmed Invasion: Deadly Consequences
Book Review by Donald A. Collins
August 17, 2004
Published on The Washington Dispatch.
Amid this Presidential campaign, perhaps the most critical in our nation’s history, issues are flying like falling leaves in an October wind, piling up against each other so as to make them almost indistinguishable, one from another. The issues that often make the most ink are likely to be the least important. As a veteran observer, it strikes me that never has our government been so out of the control of the electorate with our country seemingly spiraling into anarchy. Our democracy is in crisis and no one seems to be looking at root causes.
It must seem that way to the ACLU too, since it paid for a full page ad in the August 7, 2004 The Economist which offered the following headline: “How can we fight to uphold the Rule of Law if we break the rules ourselves?”
Daily some 2000 illegal immigrants are apprehended in a 260 mile stretch of the Arizona border near Tucson. Between 1970 and 2000 over 50 million immigrants, most with little education or assets have come here, most of them illegally. While polls show the immigration reform issue is important to over 80% of Americans, neither major party has promised satisfactory consideration.
Fortunately, a new book just published outlines the issues at stake in stark, no nonsense terms which can be readily understood. Its author, Frosty Wooldridge, a teacher, lecturer, and an author who frequently contributes his views on this issue to multi media audiences, has bicycled 100,000 miles around the globe to see the dire effects of overpopulation. This book comes from his vast and varied first hand contacts with the immigration reform issue and he leaves no aspect of this perplexing, frightening subject untreated.
IMMIGRATION'S UNARMED INVASION: DEADLY CONSEQUENCES explains each aspect from the view of how it affects us Americans and why we must speedily regain control by enforcing our laws or see the rapid decline of our nation into second rate status.
What is so unique and important about this book? Short answer: Its urgent perspective, a root paradigm, in recent years buried by other far less relevant concerns, the global impact of overpopulation, both here and everywhere. The average age of the world’s population is under 25 and in Middle Eastern nations and much of Asia, it is under 20. The failure to meet women’s needs in the 20th Century when half of all births were unintended moved world population from just over 1 billion at its beginning to 6 billion people at its conclusion, leaving poverty, terrorism, and environmental devastation in its wake. The prospect of adding several billions more this century is virtually assured unless new, urgent attention gets focused by all humanity on these unbalanced numbers, largely untutored, uneducated, and subject to recruitment by terrorists.
Wooldridge, with the most electrifying clarity yet brought to this burgeoning population calamity, the mother of mass immigration here and elsewhere, totally exposes this devastating problem in all its complexities, as he focuses on all its dire consequences for the USA, which all start with our ignoring a cherished American first principle: Our government is failing to live up to the basic Rule of Law set forth in Article IV, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution: "The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic violence."
This book details clearly why our present government at all levels is failing miserably to meet our Rule of Law in allowing unchecked levels of high immigration both legal and illegal.
From the Wooldridge Introduction, “This book exposes Americans to the accelerating consequences of mass legal and unrestricted illegal immigration into the United States. It examines individual communities and lives across this nation that have been undermined by the 1965 Immigration Reform Act.
Pre-publication reviews by many knowledgeable immigration reform observers highlight salient Wooldridge arguments. Here are only two of many examples: “Wooldridge and others who speak through the pages of this book set the record straight on why immigration impoverishes America. We sell our nation's future down the river--socially, culturally, fiscally, environmentally--for no better reason than to provide business with a flood of cheap, taxpayer-subsidized immigrant labor. This nation's poor and minorities are hurt the most in the process. I urge all Americans to heed this book's warning." Corine Flores, Immigration-reform advocate, Santa Fe, New Mexico
"When I was born 50 years ago, there were 140 million Americans. Today, we approach 300 million. In my daughter's lifetime, we could reach a "China-like" billion Americans! Read this book as if your children's futures depend on what you will learn. Their futures do depend on exactly that!" Kathleene Parker, Los Alamos, New Mexico, Writer, publisher and immigration-reformer
These two Westerners know that “the wide open spaces” of their region and others in the US similarly perceived are not arable and that endless growth, as pushed by the globalized major corporate interests who presently have bought control of our government, is an obvious myth.
“Oh, but aren’t we the richest and most powerful nation on Earth?”, say the gated community affluents. Aren’t we rich enough to do what we want, take in all who want to come, keep spending on our vast military establishment at the expense of our education system, environmental standards, and our other pressing domestic priorities?
The short answer is “No”. A perfect example of what can happen to the very richest oil producer, Saudis Arabia, whose population growth (2.5 times ours!) has cut its free gift income to each Saudi citizen from $28,000 per year in 1981 to $7000 a year now, despite record high oil prices in both years. Its 19 million population has an average age of under 18 and represents a ticking time bomb of discontent in the near future.
After one of my several trips around the world, I have talked to people who “wouldn’t want to go to..... (poor places)”. Don’t worry, folks, these “places” have and will continue to come here.
And what about our own current huge deficit government spending binge? Whoever wins in November will be operating with a deficit of historic proportions at a time of economic malaise.
In my 20 plus years of studying this dual disconnect by our government and too many American voters, no one has better articulated our failure of observe our vaunted Rule of Law in the case of immigration reform or our continuing failure to fully fund an expansion of international family planning, a low cost method of helping the entire world fare better. Let these two excerpts from this landmark call to arms prompt your purchase of this “must read” book:
“Many warnings abound from the brightest minds in the world:"Pressures resulting from unrestrained population growth put demands on the natural world that can overwhelm any efforts to achieve a sustainable future. If we are to halt the destruction of our environment, we must accept limits to that growth." --World Scientists' Warning to Humanity, signed by 1600 senior scientists from 70 countries, including 102 Nobel Prize laureates, November 18, 1992
“This book is not about race, creed or color. Americans of all races suffer this onslaught. It will become worse for all of us. As one man from India wrote me, "You Americans live an artificially high standard of living…it’s about time you come down to the rest of the world’s poverty." He wasn’t kidding. One look at California demonstrates his statement. From extensive world travels, this author appreciates that every human being on this planet paddles his or her boat the best he or she can. Every religious faith is doing the best it can. However, overpopulation does not care about such things. It weds misery and suffering for every person within its clutches. Overpopulation is relentless once humans are caught in its grip. It stems from ‘exponential growth.’ It’s the reason you see no one fleeing to Bangladesh, China or India. In these pages, the International Human Suffering Index will be discussed as well as its escalating numbers. This book addresses carrying capacity and sustainability. It addresses a viable United States versus a country that is headed, like a steaming, brakeless locomotive, toward the edge of the Grand Canyon.”Nobody ever said it better.
Most books can state the case, but few really offer cogent, realistic politically possible solutions. However, in his powerful ending section Wooldridge eloquently offers ways on “how to save America”, ideas which embrace the practical time honored principles shared by such greats as Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin, Eleanor Roosevelt and Martin Luther King. At bottom, however, the initiative must come from an informed, politically active electorate. As Franklin told us at a time when the republic was formed, it will remain so only if we actively participate. We must follow the lead of the late Barbara Jordan, who counseled us to “Speak up”, making our opposition to the nasty trend to lesser nation status unacceptable. Start by getting acquainted with the majority of Americans of all races, political persuasions, and economic status who support immigration reform by signing in to web sites on reform and getting active in your own area. As Wooldridge makes clear, your country’s future depends on your taking action now.
