At least 14 dead in clash at Mexican border prison

By E. EDUARDO CASTILLO, Associated Press Writer E. Eduardo Castillo, Associated
Press Writer

MEXICO CITY – Rival gangs clashed Friday, killing 14 inmates at a prison in the Mexican border city of Matamoros, across from Brownsville, Texas.

The prisoners died of knife wounds and beatings in the fight early Friday, said Jose Soberon, public safety secretary of the Gulf coast state of Tamaulipas.

Soberon told Milenio Television that the inmates involved in the deadly clash were serving sentences for organized crime, drug trafficking and weapons possession.

Soberon did not say what gangs were involved in the confrontation, but Tamaulipas has been wracked by bloody turf battles between the Zetas drug gang and their former allies, the Gulf drug cartel.

Federal authorities helped Tamaulipas officials to quash the fight. A spokesman for Tamaulipas state police said there was no immediate information on how many were injured in the fight.

Inmates at Mexican prisons frequently make knives, clubs and other weapons from scrap materials inside the facilities, though it was not immediately clear where they got the weapons used in Thursday's fight.

In 2008, 21 prisoners died in a fight between inmates at another state prison in the border city of Reynosa, across from McAllen, Texas.

JUDICIAL WATCH - OBAMA'S BIT BY BIT BY BIT AMNESTY

Obama to Bypass Congress and Grant Amnesty through Executive Fiat?
Over the last month, conservatives have speculated that President Obama might bypass Congress and grant blanket amnesty to millions of illegal aliens currently residing in the United States by way of executive fiat. According to a controversial new “draft” report crafted by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS), this lawless Obama administration scheme is more than mere rumor. It is a detailed and well-thought-out strategy.
According to FoxNews.com:
Sen. David Vitter, R-La., on Sunday said he and his colleagues are still looking for answers on whether the administration has seriously considered mass legalization for illegal immigrants, after an administration memo surfaced outlining ways to grant legalization without going through Congress.
The draft memo, first obtained by Iowa Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley’s office from the U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services, outlines ways the administration was exploring to legalize swaths of illegal immigrants “in the absence of Comprehensive Immigration Reform.” The memo describes how to, “reduce the threat of removal for certain individuals present in the United States without authorization.”
Of course the Obama administration is trying to downplay the significance of the memo. But these denials ring hollow. And no one can deny the intent of the memo.
You don’t even have to read past the subject header of the memo to get a clue as to what the USCIS is up to: “Administrative Alternatives to Comprehensive Illegal Immigration Reform.” Is there any way to misread the objective here? Clearly the USCIS expended a considerable amount of effort trying to sneak this past Congress in order to implement the President’s illegal alien amnesty plan.
But even if you’re someone who believes you can’t judge a memo by its title, let’s take a look at some excerpts from the USCIS document so you can judge for yourself. (You can also read the entire memo for yourself by clicking here).
• Options
The following items - used alone or in combination - have the potential to result in meaningful immigration reform absent legislative action.
• Allow TPS [Temporary Protected Status] Applicants Who Entered Without Inspection to Adjust or Change Status
…Thus, USCIS should no longer adhere to the 1990 General Counsel opinions, and instead permit individuals in TPS to adjust or change status. Opening this pathway will help thousands of applicants obtain lawful permanent residence without having to leave the U.S.
• Expand the Use of Parole-in-Place
USCIS has the discretionary authority under [federal law] to parole into the U.S. on a case-by-case basis for “urgent humanitarian reasons” or “significant public benefit” any applicant for admission…Granting parole to aliens in the U.S. who have not been admitted or paroled is commonly referred to as “parole-in-place” (PIP). By granting PIP, USCIS can eliminate the need for qualified recipients to return to their home country for consular processing, particularly when doing so might trigger a bar to returning.
• Lessen the Standard for Demonstrating Extreme Hardship
…By statute, DHS has discretion to waive these grounds of inadmissibility for spouses, sons and daughters of U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents if the refusal to admit these individuals would result in extreme hardship for their qualifying relatives. Generally the “extreme hardship” standard has been narrowly construed by USCIS. To increase the number of individuals applying for waivers, and improve their chances for receiving them, CIS could issue guidance or regulation specifying a lower evidentiary standard for “extreme hardship.”
• Increase the Use of Deferred Action
…USCIS has previously allowed the use of deferred action to provide relief to non-immigrants whose period of admission had expired, or otherwise had failed to maintain lawful immigrant status…While it is theoretically possible to grant deferred action to an unrestricted number of unlawfully present individuals, doing so would likely be controversial, not to mention expensive…Rather than making deferred action widely available to hundreds of thousands and as a non-legislative version of “amnesty,” USCIS could tailor the use of this discretionary option for particular groups….
The memo goes on for about 11 pages with other recommendations that I cannot adequately cover in this space, so do consider taking the time to read the document for yourself. I’ve reviewed tens of thousands of government documents in my 12-plus years here at Judicial Watch. So it is not insignificant for me to say that this memo is about the most brazen and shocking government document I’ve ever reviewed.
Republicans and, eventually, even Democrats are unlikely to let this matter drop. In fact, according to Fox News, Republican members of the Senate Judiciary Committee have written to Chairman Leahy demanding the matter be investigated by the Committee: “We are very concerned about the options outlined in the memo and are troubled that the executive branch could be engaged in an effort to inappropriately expand its authority to ensure illegal immigrants are not removed from the United States and are given access to various immigration benefits, including potential green card status," the Senators wrote.
Let’s sum up. Obama’s top political appointees in the agency charged with enforcing our immigration laws are spending their time thinking of ways not to enforce the law and how to bypass the elected representatives of the people to grant mass amnesty through a raw abuse of executive power.
Obama and his appointees are obviously impatient with the niceties of the U.S. Constitution and the rule of law. We already knew they’re against the rule of law with their coordinated and dishonest attack on Arizona’s SB 1070. This latest memo shows they’d be happy to throw the rule of law out entirely when it comes to immigration.
Judicial Watch is hard at work. We already had a Freedom of Information Act request in place on the secret amnesty plan, and we plan to expand our investigation in light of the new memo.

CULTURE of CORRUPTION - NO SHADY BANKING BUDDDY LEFT BEHIND - By Michelle Malkin

Michelle Malkin

No Shady Banking Buddy Left Behind

First Lady Michelle Obama's latest overseas jaunt is getting all the headlines. But President Obama's money-grubbing junket to Chicago may cost taxpayers far more in the long run. With his Gaultier-clad wife sashaying around the Spanish seaside, the lonely fundraiser-in-chief returned to Illinois to take care of some birthday-week business. Job One: Filling the Senate campaign coffers of his corruption-tainted political protege Alexi Giannoulias.
Mission accomplished. Obama's Thursday afternoon campaign event for Giannoulias, the beleaguered state treasurer of Illinois, reportedly raked in $1 million. Lagging behind his GOP opponent, liberal Republican Rep. Mark Kirk, Giannoulias has coveted one-on-one, grip-and-grin time with Obama for months. In addition to the cash, photo-ops and video of the Obama fundraising event that Giannoulias will milk from now until Election Day, the White House has dispatched Vice President Joe Biden, White House senior adviser David Axelrod and White House campaign management guru David Plouffe to boost Giannoulias' bid. Plouffe proclaimed Democrats "all in" for Giannoulias, whom he described as "a great progressive champion."
Obama gave his own personal seal of ethical approval, telling deep-pocketed donors this week: "I appreciate his strong sense of advocacy for ordinary Americans. You can trust him -- you can count on him." Uh-huh. And I've got a bridge to Hope and Change to sell you.
What would Giannoulias know about "ordinary Americans"? Giannoulias, 34, befriended Obama during pickup basketball games with an elite group that also included Michelle Obama's brother, Craig; Chicago edu-crat Arne Duncan (now Education Secretary); and hedge fund manager John Rogers (the ex-husband of the Obamas' ex-White House social secretary, Desiree Rogers). He spread his wealth and influence around early and often to support Obama's fledgling political career. He pitched in $7,000 in 2003-2004 to Obama's Illinois State Senate bids. He hosted fundraisers for Obama's U.S. Senate campaign in 2004 and for his presidential campaign in 2007.
Where'd the cash come from? Giannoulias' Greek immigrant family founded Chicago-based Broadway Bank, a now-defunct financial institution that loaned tens of millions of dollars to convicted mafia felons and faced bankruptcy after decades of engaging in risky, high-flying behavior. It's the place where Obama parked his 2004 U.S. Senate campaign funds. And it's the same place where a mutual friend of Obama and Giannoulias -- convicted Obama fundraiser/slum lord Tony Rezko -- used to bounce nearly $500,000 in bad checks written to Las Vegas casinos. This week, the Chicago Sun-Times revealed an additional $22.75 million Broadway Bank loan to a Rezko-owned business in 2006. Giannoulias held an ownership stake in the bank at the time.
Giannoulias served as Broadway Bank vice president and senior loan officer for four years. According to the Chicago Tribune, during Giannoulias' tenure, some $27 million of Broadway Bank's funny money went to mob crooks Michael "Jaws" Giorango and Demitri Stavropoulos. Giorango is a hustler who fronted a nationwide prostitution ring and was sentenced to six months in prison; Stavropoulos is behind bars for operating a multistate bookmaking ring. Giorango ran the $400-an-hour call girl operation out of high-rise luxury apartments in Chicago with the infamous "Gold Coast Madam," Rose Laws. Giorango and Stavropoulos used their Broadway Bank loans to start their own risky lending business for nontraditional borrowers unable to secure traditional bank financing.
Despite Giorango's criminal record exposed by the Tribune in 2004, Broadway Bank approved massive mortgages for him. Giannoulias' brother, Demetris, explained that as a "relationship bank," Broadway wouldn't just throw someone under the bus because of a "bad article." Instead, the bank went ahead and rubber-stamped a September 2005 loan for $3.4 million to buy a 32-unit Los Angeles apartment complex. The application falsely stated that the borrower, Giorango, had "not been convicted of a felony." Giannoulias oversaw the servicing of such shady loans totaling $11 million. Remember: He was no low-level staffer. He was, as he reminded supporters when he needed to deflect attention away from his youth, top management at Broadway Bank.
In January 2010, the bank entered a consent decree with federal and Illinois state regulators. It required Broadway Bank "to raise tens of millions in capital, stop paying dividends to the family without regulatory approval, and hire an outside party to evaluate the bank's senior management." The city's former inspector general blasted Giannoulias and his family for tapping $70 million worth of dividends in 2007 and 2008 as the real estate crash loomed. Broadway Bank was sitting on an estimated $250 million in bad loans. In late April, federal regulators shut it down. Cost to taxpayers: an estimated $390 million. Giannoulias refused to drop out of the race -- and instead used the company failure to argue that it made him (SET ITAL) more (END ITAL) qualified to serve in office: "I have a renewed vigor and a new perspective on just how horrible it is out there for so many people."
President Obama agrees: Abysmal failure should be rewarded with promotion. He's leaving no shady banking buddy behind.

Obamanomics: How Barack Obama Is Bankrupting You and Enriching His Wall Street Friends, Corporate Lobbyists, and Union Bosses

BY TIMOTHY P CARNEY

Editorial Reviews
Obama Is Making You Poorer—But Who’s Getting Rich?
Goldman Sachs, GE, Pfizer, the United Auto Workers—the same “special interests” Barack Obama was supposed to chase from the temple—are profiting handsomely from Obama’s Big Government policies that crush taxpayers, small businesses, and consumers. In Obamanomics, investigative reporter Timothy P. Carney digs up the dirt the mainstream media ignores and the White House wishes you wouldn’t see. Rather than Hope and Change, Obama is delivering corporate socialism to America, all while claiming he’s battling corporate America. It’s corporate welfare and regulatory robbery—it’s Obamanomics.
Congressman Ron Paul says, “Every libertarian and free-market conservative needs to read Obamanomics.” And Johan Goldberg, columnist and bestselling author says, “Obamanomics is conservative muckraking at its best and an indispensable field guide to the Obama years.”
If you’ve wondered what’s happening to America, as the federal government swallows up the financial sector, the auto industry, and healthcare, and enacts deficit exploding “stimulus packages,” this book makes it all clear—it’s a big scam. Ultimately, Obamanomics boils down to this: every time government gets bigger, somebody’s getting rich, and those somebodies are friends of Barack. This book names the names—and it will make your blood boil.

* The Great Health Care Scam—Obama’s backroom deals with drug companies spell corporate profits and more government control
* The Global Warming Hoax—Obama has bought off industries with a pork-filled bill that will drain your wallet for Al Gore’s agenda
* Obama and Wall Street—“Change” means more bailouts and a heavy Goldman Sachs presence in the West Wing (including Rahm Emanuel)
* Stimulating K Street—The largest spending bill in history gave pork to the well-connected and created a feeding frenzy for lobbyists
* How the GOP needs to change its tune—drastically—to battle Obamanomics

Praise for Obamanomics
“The notion that ‘big business’ is on the side of the free market is one of progressivism’s most valuable myths. It allows them to demonize corporations by day and get in bed with them by night. Obamanomics is conservative muckraking at its best. It reveals how President Obama is exploiting the big business mythology to undermine the free market and stick it to entrepreneurs, taxpayers, and consumers. It’s an indispensable field guide to the Obama years.”
—Jonha Goldberg, LA Times columnist and best-selling author
“‘Every time government gets bigger, somebody’s getting rich.’ With this astute observation, Tim Carney begins his task of laying bare the Obama administration’s corporatist governing strategy, hidden behind the president’s populist veneer. This meticulously researched book is a must-read for anyone who wants to understand how Washington really works.”
—David Freddoso, best-selling author of The Case Against Barack Obama
“Every libertarian and free-market conservative who still believes that large corporations are trusted allies in the battle for economic liberty needs to read this book, as does every well-meaning liberal who believes that expansions of the welfare-regulatory state are done to benefit the common people.”
—Congressman Ron Paul
“It’s understandable for critics to condemn President Obama for his ‘socialism.’ But as Tim Carney shows, the real situation is at once more subtle and more sinister. Obamanomics favors big business while disproportionately punishing everyone else. So-called progressives are too clueless to notice, as usual, which is why we have Tim Carney and this book.”

WHAT DOES FRANCE DO ABOUT THEIR ANCHORS? Give Them Citizenship, Welfare and LA RAZ MEX SUPREMACY?

It’s a bit different in the United States. Here we pay out hundreds of millions to be Mexico’s welfare birthing center. For Mexico, anchors are merely another device to expand Mexican supremacy, and LA RECONQUISTA!
Americans are not only forced to pay for the Mexican invasion, but millions in bi-lingual everything as Mexicans loathe the gringo’s language.
We all have seen them marching and waving their Mex flags! Cinco de Mayo is virtually a national holiday, and when high schools students dared to wear American flag t-shirts, the LA RAZA student body had a conniption, went on a RACIST MARCH, and the Americans were expelled! VIVA LA RAZA!

THERE IS NOTHING MORE RACIST, OR VIOLENT THAN THE MEXICAN CULTURE!

“A recent Pew poll indicated that a very large percentage of Americans of Mexican descent regard themselves as Mexicans. Not Mexican-Americans, not American-Mexicans. Just Mexicans.”

“In Mexico, a recent Zogby poll declared that the vast majority of Mexican citizens hate Americans. [22.2] Mexico is a country saturated with racism, yet in denial, having never endured the social development of a Civil Rights movement like in the US--Blacks are harshly treated while foreign Whites are often seen as the enemy. [22.3] In fact, racism as workplace discrimination can be seen across the US anywhere the illegal alien Latino works--the vast majority of the workforce is usually strictly Latino, excluding Blacks, Whites, Asians, and others.”

Just over half, 54 percent, say it is important that they change to assimilate into society, yet about two-thirds, 66 percent, say Latinos should maintain their distinct culture.

FROM VOICE OF AMERICA
French President Vows Tough Stand on Foreign-Born Citizens
Selah Hennessy | London06 August 2010
French President Nicolas Sarkozy, center, delivers a speech next to French Justice Minister Michele Alliot Marie, left, and French Interior Minister Brice Hortefeux, right, in Grenoble, French Alps, 30 Jul 2010 (file photo)
French President Nicolas Sarkozy is vowing to get tough not only on illegal immigrants, but even on the country's foreign-born citizens. The president says it's to bolster law and order, though critics accuse him of pandering to France's right-wing electorate by appearing tough on immigrants. Some think this is a policy trend across Europe.
Interior Minister Brice Hortefeux said last week illegal Roma immigrants, also known as Gypsies, will be expelled from the country and hundreds of their camps will be dismantled.
He said Romas who have disturbed public order or have committed fraud will be deported to Bulgaria or to Romania.

Hortefeux said the government was not stigmatizing Roma, but says it is a question of public safety. There recently have been a few public order incidents involving Roma, including a riot in southeastern France.

Mr. Sarkozy called the camps a source of illegal trafficking and prostitution. The French government also has said it will strip naturalized citizens of their French nationality if they break the law. The new policy would apply to people who have been French for less than 10 years and who commit serious crimes.

Meanwhile, a video has emerged that shows French police dragging immigrant women and children from a demonstration in Paris, where they were protesting their eviction from illegal squats. John Dalhuisen, from Britain-based Amnesty International, says it is not clear from the video that the police had acted beyond their orders. But he says it may have symbolized a wider trend in France.

"That reflects the fact that it seems to fit into a broader context in which an increasing number of repressive measures are being taken," said Dalhuisen. "It has become a symbol, whether it is in fact in its own terms genuinely one or not, of a broader pattern."

Last month, politicians in France's lower house voted to ban the Islamic burqa in public places. It said the veil oppresses women and leads to segregation. Dalhuisen says measures like these add up to a tendency in France to view foreigners as outsiders and a social threat.

"The signs at this stage are not good, the intemperate language that has been used, the policy announcements that have been made," said Dalhuisen. "All point to a situation in which the rights of foreigners, of people often, but not all by any means, in irregular situations, living very much on the margins of society, excluded from social services, excluded from the labor market, will see their situation worsen."

Executive Director Mark Lattimer of the London-based Minority Rights Group International says anti-immigrant right-wing parties are emerging across Europe. He says the parties are not necessarily gaining a large number of votes, but their policies are seeping into mainstream politics.

"The far-right parties that exist in Europe at the moment on the whole, certainly in Western Europe, have very small support," said Lattimer. "But one dangerous thing that happens is that mainstream political parties sometimes espouse some of their policies for populist motives. They see that espousing anti-immigration rhetoric is a way of getting themselves voted into power. Some of them rather bizarrely adopt the policies of far-right parties and justify it by saying this is a way of keeping the far right out."

Lattimer says French President Sarkozy may have adopted a rhetoric he thinks will be attractive to right-wing voters. France's next presidential election is in less than two years.

"The President Nicolas Sarkozy has led a series of statements targeting immigrants, calling for a ban on certain types of Islamic dress on the streets of France and so on and so forth and they are really not justified on public-policy grounds, arguably they are contrary to the French constitution, but they are populist measures designed to get him support with a significant sector of the French population who of course are suffering in the current economic recession," said Lattimer.

Amnesty International estimates that there are around 20,000 Roma in France. Many are recent immigrants from Central and Eastern Europe.

Recession-battered states cut funding for the disabled
By Marisol Bello, USA TODAY
Blane Beckwith wants to keep living at home with his mother and younger brother in Berkeley, Calif.
For that to happen, Beckwith, 54, who has spinal muscular atrophy and uses a wheelchair, relies on an aide paid by the state to get him in and out of bed, bathe him, feed him, dress him and do everything he can't do for himself.
Now that kind of help is in jeopardy. California, facing a $19.1 billion budget gap, is considering a reduction in funding that pays for home care aides for the disabled. It already cut funds last year.
Beckwith worries that under the new, tighter rules, he might no longer qualify for his aide and other assistance and that he'll end up in a nursing home.
"I'd rather be dead," he says. "Twenty years after the Americans With Disabilities Act was signed, things are getting worse for us. States want to save money by cutting services to the most vulnerable people. That's us, the disabled."
Last month, the nation celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA), a law that for 50 million disabled people is the equivalent of Brown vs. the Board of Education, the landmark Supreme Court ruling that ended racial segregation in schools and paved the way for the civil rights movement.
The ADA prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in employment, public accommodations, transportation and state and local services.
Now, though, gains made under the ADA are running into recession-battered state budgets. At least 17 states have cut into funding for assistance to the disabled since 2009 or are planning to do it this year, says Phil Oliff, a policy analyst with the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, which analyzes the effect of public spending on low-income people. The cuts include cash, home nursing services and grants to agencies that help the disabled live independently.
Under the ADA and a 1999 Supreme Court decision upholding it, the disabled have a right to live in their communities. States, within their resources, must provide community-based services that make it possible.
That means states are up against opposing mandates: Under the ADA, the court said, states must provide care that best integrates a person into the community — as long as the states can pay for it. However, Medicaid rules require them to pay for nursing home care, but not home care, for people with disabilities.
"I think every state wants to provide more community-based care, but they just can't afford it," says Ann Kohler, executive director of the National Association of State Medicaid Directors, which manages services to the disabled.

About 3 million Americans who need long-term care live at home and get state-paid services, according to the Kaiser Commission on Medicaid and the Uninsured.

"States are in terrible fiscal constraints right now," Kohler says. "The one thing they can cut are optional services and rates (that states pay for optional and mandatory services), and they are doing both. Home-based care is optional. Personal care is optional. Those things are going down."

The Obama administration argues that, budget constraints or not, states have to provide home services. The Justice Department has filed lawsuits and, in other cases, supporting briefs in 11 states.

Not being able to afford the community-based services is not an excuse, says Thomas Perez, assistant attorney general for civil rights. He says his department has been working with the Department of Health and Human Services to find more funding for some of the states it is going up against in court.

"People with disabilities want to be free and independent and robust participants in the community," Perez says. "It's hard if not impossible to accomplish that if you are warehoused in an institution."

Rahnee Patrick of Chicago knows about independent living. Patrick, 36, has psoriasis and arthritis so severe that she cannot use her arms and hands. She and her husband, Mike Irvin, 53, who uses a wheelchair because of multiple sclerosis, live in their own home but need aides.

Now, Illinois plans to reduce services to the disabled as part of $1.4 billion in budget cuts. She doesn't know what the impact of the reduction will be on her or her husband, but she says that without the services, she'd still be living with her parents and would not have married her husband of four years.

"I get to live the life I never dreamed for myself," she says. "These cuts would take that away."

U.S. Taxpayers Spend $113 Billion Annually on Illegal Aliens
America has never been able to afford the costs of illegal immigration. With rising unemployment and skyrocketing deficits, federal and state lawmakers are now facing the results of failed policies. A new, groundbreaking report from FAIR, The Fiscal Burden of Illegal Immigration on U.S. Taxpayers, takes a comprehensive look at the estimated fiscal costs resulting from federal, state and local expenditures on illegal aliens and their U.S.-born children.
Expanding upon the series of state studies done in the past, FAIR has estimated the annual cost of illegal immigration to be $113 billion, with much of the cost — $84.2 billon — coming at the state and local level.

No. Of Illegal Aliens On Welfare Doubles In Nevada
Last Updated: Tue, 11/03/2009 - 12:51pm
A relatively new federal program that allows illegal immigrants to use their American-born anchor babies to collect welfare for the entire family has expanded nationwide and nearly doubled in a western state that already spends hundreds of millions of dollars to provide undocumented residents with public services.
The Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program (TANF) was created by the U.S. Dept of Health and Human Services a few years ago so that illegal aliens could get monthly welfare checks to help support the entire family. It is the only public assistance program where parents can apply in their children’s name as opposed to applying in their own. It also does not require parents to demonstrate that they are in the U.S. legally since most aren’t.
In Nevada alone, the TANF program’s caseload has grown 96% since the recession hit the state like an atomic bomb two years ago. A news report reveals that around 4,250 of the families receiving the benefit in Nevada have “mixed immigration status.” In other words, U.S. taxpayers are supporting thousands of illegal alien families because they have at least one anchor baby.
Nevada already blows a whopping $630 million a year to provide its rapidly growing illegal immigrant population with public services that should be reserved for legal U.S. residents. The Silver State spends $470 million annually to educate the children of illegal immigrants in public schools and an additional $45 million for limited English programs. Eighty five million goes to healthcare for illegal immigrants and $31 to incarcerate them.
Illegal aliens are also largely responsible for Nevada’s home foreclosure crisis, reportedly the nation’s worst. Around 5 million fraudulent mortgages nationwide are in the hands of illegal aliens, according to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and it is no secret that a substantial chunk of them are in Nevada.

For the second consecutive year taxpayers in a single U.S. county will dish out more than half a billion dollars just to cover the welfare and food-stamp costs of illegal immigrants.
Los Angeles County, the nation’s most populous, may be in the midst of a dire financial crisis but somehow there are plenty of funds for illegal aliens. In January alone, anchor babies born to the county’s illegal immigrants collected more than $50 million in welfare benefits. At that rate the cash-strapped county will pay around $600 million this year to provide illegal aliens’ offspring with food stamps and other welfare perks.

THE EXORBITANT FIGURE DOES NOT INCLUDE THE ENORMOUS COST OF EDUCATING, MEDICALLY TREATING, OR INCARCERATING ILLEGALS ALIENS. THIS COSTS THE COUNTY AN ADDITIONAL ONE BILLION DOLLARS.

The exorbitant figure, revealed this week by a county supervisor, doesn’t even include the enormous cost of educating, medically treating or incarcerating illegal aliens in the sprawling county of about 10 million residents. Los Angeles County annually spends more than $1 billion for those combined services, including $500 million for healthcare and $350 million for public safety.
About a quarter of the county’s welfare and food stamp issuances go to parents who reside in the United States illegally and collect benefits for their anchor babies, according to the figures from the county’s Department of Social Services. In 2009 the tab ran $570 million and this year’s figure is expected to increase by several million dollars.
Illegal immigration continues to have a “catastrophic impact on Los Angeles County taxpayers,” the veteran county supervisor (Michael Antonovich) who revealed the information has said. The former fifth-grade history teacher has repeatedly come under fire from his liberal counterparts for publicizing statistics that confirm the devastation illegal immigration has had on the region. Antonovich, who has served on the board for nearly three decades, represents a portion of the county that is roughly twice the size of Rhode Island and has about 2 million residents.
His district is simply a snippet of a larger crisis. Nationwide, Americans pay around $22 billion annually to provide illegal immigrants with welfare benefits that include food assistance programs such as free school lunches in public schools, food stamps and a nutritional program (known as WIC) for low-income women and their children. Tens of billions more are spent on other social services, medical care, public education and legal costs such as incarceration and public defenders.

Anchor Babies Grab One Quarter of Welfare Dollars in LA Co

The anchor baby scam has proven lucrative for illegal aliens in Los Angeles County, at considerable cost to our own poor and downtrodden legal citizenry.

The numbers show that more than $50 million in CalWORKS benefits and food stamps for January went to children born in the United States whose parents are in the country without documentation. This represents approximately 23 percent of the total benefits under the state welfare and food stamp programs, Antonovich said.

"When you add this to $350 million for public safety and nearly $500 million for health care, the total cost for illegal immigrants to county taxpayers far exceeds $1 billion a year -- not including the millions of dollars for education," Antonovich said.

I love children and I'm all for compassion -- smart, teach-them-to-fish compassion. But when laws, the Constitution, and enforcement allow illegal aliens (the operative word here being "illegal") to insinuate themselves into our nation and bleed us of our precious financial resources, then laws, the Constitution and enforcement need to be changed.

WHO REALLY PAYS FOR THE MEX WELFARE STATE? NOT THE EMPLOYERS OF ILLEGALS! NOT MEXICO! WE ARE MEXICO’S WELFARE SYSTEM.

AN AMERICAN SEES & SPEAKS
ILLEGALS & TAXES
I am so sick and tired of people using the sales tax defense for illegals. Sales tax in Sacramento is 8.75%. I make $600 a week in gross wages. I bring home $488 a week. Thats $448 a month in taxes which equals 18.6% in taxes I pay. Not to mention I also pay sales tax on everything I buy. Lets say an illegal brings home $2000 a month and all that money is used to buy taxable products (which in real life it is not), that equals $175 he pays in sales tax a month. WHile I pay $488 in payroll taxes a month PLUS the sales tax I pay. Me = $488, ILLEGAL=$175. Does this seem fair to you? On top of all this, I do not qualify for government funded anything and have NEVER been on government funded anything including unemployment. So not only do they get to keep more of their money, they get to spend more of mine in the form of government subsidies. And even if they use a stolen SSN, they are allowed by law to claim 9 exemptions, therefore have little to no payroll taxes taken out of their paycheck. What happened to things being equal? WHy is it that the people who work hard everyday are the ones being abused. Most of the time I feel like a donkey going to work everyday with a whip cracked at my back and some illegal shouting vamanos while a bunch of illegals and their children get their free food, medical, housing from my sweat and blood. Its not fair. Equality for all I say. Like Obama says everyone needs to pay their fair share.

With mid-term elections just months away, Americans continue to view being a member of Congress as the least favorable of nine professions.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 23% of Adults share a favorable opinion of members of Congress. Seventy-two percent (72%) have an unfavorable view of congressmen. These findings include five percent (5%) who have a Very Favorable impression and 45% who have a Very Unfavorable view of the legislators.
These findings are virtually unchanged from late September 2009 when being a member of members of Congress surpassed corporate CEOs as hold the least favorable profession.
Thirty-four percent (34%) now have a favorable impression of CEO’s, up slightly from the previous survey. A solid majority (59%) regard them unfavorably. This includes eight percent (8%) with a Very Favorable opinion and three times as many (2%) with a Very Unfavorable one.
Rasmussen Reports periodically asks adults their views of nine major professions. In February and June of late year, following the Wall Street meltdown and at a time when bailouts were a major government concern, corporate chief executive officers were rated at the very bottom, while members of Congress in both surveys came in next to last. Since the health care debate began to heat up, members of Congress have fallen behind CEOs.

The survey of 1,000 Adults was conducted on July 31-August 1, 2010 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.
Once again, people who start their own business are the most respected professionals in the country. Most Adults (89%) have a favorable impression of entrepreneurs, including 61% with a Very Favorable view of them. Only seven percent (7%) view these businessmen unfavorably. These findings show little change over the past couple years.
Tied with entrepreneurs are small business owners, regarded favorably by 89%. Six percent (6%) have an unfavorable opinion of small business owners. This finding, too, shows virtually no change from past surveys.
Small business confidence fell for the second month in July as a higher percentage of small business owners rated the current economy as poor and see it only getting worse, according to the Discover Small Business Watch.
Seventy-four percent (74%) view pastors and other local religious leaders at least somewhat favorably, while 19% take the opposing view. This finding is up slightly from late September 2009.

Recent polling finds that eight-out-of-10 Americans (80%) say that their religious faith is at least somewhat important in their daily lives.
At roughly 45%, lawyers, stock brokers and bankers are in the middle of the pack in terms of the most respected professions. For full details, please view the chart below.
